Tereza Catarov Quintet

20 Sherwood St, London, W1F 7ED

This show is for over 18's only. ID may be required at the door.
Description

A Romanian-born, London-based singer, composer and storyteller, Tereza Catarov brings a powerful and evocative blend of modern jazz sensibilities with the haunting beauty of Balkan folk traditions. Her music is a soul-stirring journey through memory, heritage, and the lives of women who came before her, shaped by stories passed down through generations.

With roots in both Romanian and Bulgarian cultures, she weaves ancient melodies, modal harmonies, and intricate rhythms into bold contemporary jazz arrangements. The result is music that feels both timeless and forward-looking, rich in nuance, emotional depth, and unmistakable identity.

Her debut album, Koren, honours the voices of the women who shaped her early life, particularly her grandmothers and the wider community of elders from her childhood. The album received 4-star reviews from Jazzwise and Songlines magazine and was named one of the best albums of 2025 by Jazzwise writer Peter Quinn.
