Beyond The Top 10: The Audiences Podcasting Underserves

90 York Way, London, N1 9AG

Description

Podcast audiences are more diverse and mainstream than ever, but does the industry reflect them? This session explores the growing gap between audiences and representation, revealing why diversity is no longer just a social issue, but a commercial opportunity for creators, commissioners and advertisers.

Podcasting has never been bigger. Weekly listenership in the UK has grown to 22 million, video podcasts are transforming how audiences consume content, and the medium has firmly entered the mainstream. Yet while podcast audiences are becoming larger and increasingly diverse, the voices dominating the charts and the people shaping the industry often remain far less representative.

This session explores the growing disconnect between who is listening and who is being heard. Drawing on the latest audience data, industry research and insights into representation across podcasting, we’ll examine how concentrated success, limited diversity in commissioning and leadership, and a lack of up-to-date research on underrepresented audiences are creating missed creative and commercial opportunities.
